My Yoga Journey
I am often asked what brought me to yoga. Afterall, I went to college to be an Accountant, and spent alot of my young adult life in management type jobs. So what happened? What changed?
I have always been an over-achiever. Constantly pushing myself to be the best at whatever I did. Like everyone else, it eventually caught up to me. I found myself overstressed, over-exhausted, and on the edge of a total meltdown. I was a stay-at-home mom, and money was very tight. We made financial sacrifices in order to give our children the safest, most nurturing childhood we could. My health had began to take a downward turn as a result of the stress I had put myself under.
One morning in 2001, I decided to take a Yoga class. The only thing I can say, is that it was divine inspiration. I had always envisioned yoga as the wise old Yogi sitting at the tip of a mountain, levitating, and meditating, only to spit out some little wisdom. The cartoon version, basically. I'd never considered it as a form of health care, or lifestyle that was attainable by us normal folks. So the urge to take a class came out of no-where.
My first yoga class was amazing. I couldn't believe how much better I felt after only one class. All I could think was, I've got to share this wonderful gift with others. So I began studying seriously. This journey took me through 2 surgeries, to bring myself back to health. After my second surgery in 2005, I immediately enrolled in Teacher Training with PremYoga & Wellness, in West Palm Beach. I recieved my Teacher Certificate from PremShakti that May.
Since then, my life has taken amazing transformations. I am happier, healthier, and a better wife, and parent to my children. I found that to be the "best" at anything is a lofty goal, and to accept myself for what I am. My family moved up to Central FL, where we've wanted to live for a long time. Now I am fulfilling my goal of bringing Yoga to others. I LOVE what I do for a living.
